Hello! I’m Sarah, and this is my blog.

This is me on a good day.
I’m in college, working through my second semester of my junior year. I’m a double major in Drawing & Painting and Theatre. My goal right now is to become a scenic designer or artistic director for theatrical productions, or maybe stay at one theater and work as its resident artistic director.
I love to read, when I set aside the time for it. Favorite books of mine include Fahrenheit 451, To Kill A Mockingbird, the Harry Potter series, the Ender’s Game series, the Hunger Games series, The Book Thief, Let The Right One In, Speak, The Hobbit, and so many others. I love the feeling of spending all day reading a good book.
Visual arts are a huge part of my life. I have an eye for aesthetics, and I channel that in drawing and painting. My favorite media is pen and ink, and my favorite subject is figure drawing or portraiture. Even though it’s my favorite thing to do, my art skills are not the best, and I’m rather insecure about my talents. I know I’m better than some people, but as soon as I see someone better than myself in my age group, I get really down on myself. I’m also incapable of drawing illustrative things - all of my work is quite realistic. I want to learn how to draw in a more imaginative style, or a comic style. Really, I wish I could do fan art. I can’t for shit. But I can draw live models or photographs rather successfully. I need to get back into colored pencils; that was my best media in high school, but I drifted away from it, and now I regret that.
I also love movies, but I couldn’t begin to tell you my favorites… okay, maybe I could. A good top ten list would probably include:
Gladiator
LOTR (ALL OF THEM, YOU CAN’T MAKE ME CHOOSE, BITCHES)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
V For Vendetta
Little Miss Sunshine
Chicago
Serenity
The Lion King
Star Wars movies
Narnia movies
…but that’s really prone to change. I just like going to movies, seeing beautiful visuals, talented actors, moving scores. I love film.
Theatre is another love of mine. I haven’t spent a lot of time as an active participator, but I’ve been in a handful of shows in my time, and as it’s my minor, I should hope that I have some love for it. Movies of course have their own charm, but there’s something very personal about stage shows that doesn’t come through in the movie theater. Musicals are especially wonderful to me - I’ve seen bunches on all levels of professionalism, and I think every show and theater and troupe has its own spunk and character. I love it.
I wish I could write. That would be amazing.
I live in Texas. My family has two cats, and one of them is “mine”. She’s my baby and my pride and joy and my snuggle-buddy. I adore her. Even when she pukes on my sheets. Her name is Amore and she is the most loving animal I have ever owned.
I HATE the ocean. I absolutely despise any open water, particularly water that you can’t see through. Even if it’s crystal-clear, though, I’m not the biggest fan. Only semi-shallow swimming pools are acceptable to me. Sharks freak the fuck out of me and I hate them and would prefer to never be in their vicinity. Fish are also terrible, as are whales, dolphins, and anything else that can’t walk on land.
Funnily enough, turtles CAN walk on land, and they happen to be my favorite kind of animal. They’re great and cute and pretty and I just love them. I collect figurines of them. I owned two when I was like three. I think a dog ate one and we let the other go. cool story, bro. So yeah, turtles rock.
I’m obsessed with music. I don’t understand people that aren’t. If I’m not actively talking to someone, in class, or watching something, I’m listening to music. If I had to pick a very favorite artist, it would be Regina Spektor. I adore her work and I wish I had a voice like hers.
I’ve just realized how very long this whole thing is getting, but I’m not finished talking about myself yet. That’s another thing, I’m rather self-centered at times.
TV SHOWS. I enjoy, generally in this order, Firefly, Sherlock, Community, Lost, The Office, Misfits, 30 Rock, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. There’s not much to say here except each show has its ups and downs and I enjoy them for what they are. The only one I get legitimately obsessive over is Firefly. It is just one of my very favorite THINGS of all time. If you’ve never watched, I highly suggest you give it a go.
I AM HOMESTUCK AND YOU SHOULD TOO.
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT (a list of quirky things about me to finish up this entirely useless post)
